From a young age, Mohamed Masmoudi has been fascinated by music in all its forms, imprinted by the rich history of his native Tunisia which has seen several civilizations evolve on its lands. Since then, he has dedicated his life to studying, exploring and performing a multitude of instruments, genres and musical styles from diverse cultures.
Oud player Mohamed Masmoudi has been musically trained in both eastern and western traditions, drawing inspiration from classical, jazz and music that blends different cultural influences. Masmoudi’s rich and diverse journey has emboldened his sound, with Alain Brunet from La Presse underscoring “his mastery of his musical heritage and that of modern music that he’s passionate about”.
In his projects as an artistic director and composer, Mohamed Masmoudi seeks to create a unifying music that values the heritage of cultures that have marked his life. This artistic approach is notably embodied in “Villes éternelles”, the first album of the Masmoudi Quartet, released in 2023.
